Thor Magni rescues 2 sailors from mid-Atlantic


At 10:30 hrs on Saturday 10 June Thor Magni recovered 2 survivors from their life raft. Their yacht, FURIA, was competing in the "Royal Western Yacht Club's single-handed and two-handed transatlantic race"; from UK to USA, when it sank about 460 km east of St.John's, Newfoundland. The wind was southerly 40-45 knots and seas 7 metres, visibility 1/2 nm.

M/V Thor Magni is the support vessel for the "Ramform Tethys" a seismic survey vessel owned and operated by PGS Geophysical. While on her way to deliver some cargo to the vessel  she received instructions from the Canadian Coast Guard regarding the yacht's predicament. Mayday relay was received at 07:35 hrs and Thor Magni was in position by 10:00 hrs. There were 4 other yachts in distress and all crew have been picked up by other vessels in the vicinty.

The 2 crew members are now safely home.
